A Quick History - Dodge
Dodge was founded by Horace and John
Dodge in 1900. The company originally made engines and chassis for
local automobile companies. The Dodges wished to make their own
vehicles though and in 1914 they made the Dodge Model 30.
Dodge Model 30 |
Dodges became known for durability and
ranked second in American sales in 1920. However, in January of that
year, John died of pneumonia and in December, Horace died of
cirrhosis. The company passed to the widows.
Rankings dropped and the company
slipped to seventh place. Dodge began to make light trucks but sales
continued to drop. They made the decision to sell to Chrysler in
1928.
Dodge's New Logo |
In 1942, Dodge, like many car
companies, shut down car production to concentrate on the war
materials needed. After the war, cars were in demand from the lack of
new ones and Dodge didn't have a hard time getting back into the
market.

Avoid Buying a Flood Damaged Vehicle
Right now, a big problem that people are worried
about, and justifiably so, are flooded vehicles. We were
very fortunate as none of our vehicles were damaged in the storm (but
several employees did have damage to their homes sadly).
A lot of warnings regarding flooded
cars have been released, especially for Craigslist ads. We want
everyone to be educated on what to look for when buying a new
vehicle.
So how do you know you're not buying a
previously flooded car? Here are just a few tips that might help:
-It is actually required by law in
Florida that a title be branded with "Flood damage" if it
was affected by a flood. An AutoCheck or Carfax report can tell you
this information as well.
-Check for a strong moldy smell. This
may indicate underlying mildew but always investigate further as to
the cause.
-Check for obvious damage like rust and
corrosion, especially in the undercarriage.
-Look closely at upholstery. Check for
stains or different colors throughout the vehicle.
-When you start it up, check all the
electronics. A/C, Radio, Windshield Wipers, etc. Of course, it may just be an issue with that particular part, but you may want to investigate further as to the cause.
-Check compartments like the dashboard,
trunk, and glove compartment for dirt and mud.
-Always, always test drive a vehicle!
This is a given with any vehicle you are considering.
-And most importantly: take it to a
mechanic. They might find something you missed.
We always invite our customers to take
their vehicles to a mechanic before purchasing. We want our
customers to be happy with their purchase and to have peace of mind.
If you have been affected by the flood
and are in need of a new vehicle, come see us. We can help you get out of
the damaged vehicle as well as assist with appraisals and insurance
companies.

A Quick History - Subaru
Did you know...?
Eddie Mercer actually used to own the Subaru store in Pensacola!
Eddie Mercer actually used to own the Subaru store in Pensacola!
Subaru is the car division of Fuji
Heavy Industries (FHI), a major transportation company located in
Japan. The company was originally named The Aircraft Reasearch Lab in
1915 by Chikuhei Nakajima. The business underwent several name
changes and reorganizations between 1932 and 1950.
During World War II, the company was
the major manufacturer of aircraft for the Japanese military.
Afterward, they designed the Fuji Rabbit motor scooter out of the
left over airplane parts.
In 1950, new Japanese laws split the
company up into twelve smaller corporations. Four decided to merge
and they became the Fuji Heavy Industries that exists today in 1953.
The CEO of this new business wanted them to get involved in cars.
After several names were considered and dismissed, they decided on
“Subaru” which is Japanese for the Pleiades star cluster (hence
the logo). They introduced their first car in 1954.
Subaru entered the American market in
1968 and over the years have produced dozens of models. Toyota has a
partial partnership with FHI today. It's often said that once you own a Subaru, you're a Subaru owner for life!

A Quick History - Acura
Acura, produced by Honda, was the first
luxury vehicle made in Japan. Introduced in the United States in
March of 1986, Acura quickly became the best selling luxury car.
Toyota and Nissan quickly responded with their own luxury lines in
the Lexus and Infiniti.
2012 Acura NSX Concept |
In the mid to late 90s, sales began to
decline for the Acura. Critics largely blame the uninspiring designs
for this. However, during this time, Japan was experiencing a huge
decline in the economy and Honda was feeling the pressure. This may
have had a large influence on the cars' designs.
1999 Acura Integra |
There was a revival in the 2000s, with
plenty of redesigns and new models and the Acura's sales quickly
improved. Today, Acura luxury vehicles remain a popular vehicle and
they continue to “Advance”.
