In 1983, Toyota wanted to make a luxury car that would challenge the best. They secretly began to plan the Lexus with a large development team. When it finally debuted in 1989, the company spent millions of dollars on its advertisement campaign. Lexus was praised for customer service and quickly developed customer loyalty.

Although initial sales were slower than expected, the company expanded and grew throughout the years. In 1999, Lexus ranked as the top selling luxury car maker within the United States. With continued expansion throughout the 00's, Lexus wanted to reach other countries. Sales increased in several markets, including South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Middle East, and Australia (though they are known as Toyota in some countries). Today, Lexus continues to grow and reach into new markets.
