While we'd love if you bought your car
from us, we know some people prefer to buy on a car they found on
Craigslist. We wanted to give you a few safety tips on buying a vehicle from the By Owner section.
Craigslist is a great, local tool that is easy to use. There are tons of choices to use to narrow down what you're looking for and its updated constantly with new vehicles. Craigslist has anything from a 2014
Porsche Cayman
to this
Craigslist offers a few tips right up
front.
- Don't buy from someone offering to ship the vehicle. You'll send them your money and most likely never see them, your car, or your money ever again.
- Don't wire your money! This includes Western Union. You have no idea where that money is going.
- Don't buy without seeing the vehicle in person. This should be a strict rule to follow! You can't be positive that the seller didn't just take photos from the attractive side. Perhaps the left side is in PERFECT condition, but the right is missing it's door mirror and has no paint. Take it a step further if you'd like, ask the seller if it's possible to have it checked out by a mechanic. Check it for flood damage.
The most important aspect about buying
a Craigslist vehicle, or anything on Craigslist, is BE CAREFUL! Bring
a friend if you don't feel comfortable. Try to meet at a public, well
traveled spot if possible. Make sure to discuss all the details of the transaction before hand.
Craigslist is an amazing tool and you
can find a lot of great things on there! Just like the gems for sale below. But at the same time, you don't want to get stuck with a 2010 Avocado, so always, always check out the car before
you buy!
2010 Acocado - He wants to trade it for a 2014 Kiwi |
1998 Toyota FJ Cruiser - Do you really want it THAT bad? |
This one is pretty cool - A custom made Pirate Ship! |
