Chevrolet was founded by Louis
Chevrolet and ousted GM founder, William Durant, in 1911. The famous
logo was designed in 1914. Durant, a great marketer, had planned to
use Chevrolet's racing reputation to sell vehicles. However, Louis
ended up leaving the company in 1915 over differences with Durant.

He may have made a mistake because in
1916, Durant was able to repurchase his controlling interest in
General Motors from Chevy's profits. He went on to become president
of GM and merged Chevrolet in 1917.

Chevrolet competed with Ford between
the 1920s and 40s. The company had a great influence in the American
market throughout the 50s and 60s. In 1963, one out of ten cars was a
Chevy.

Today, Chevrolet has seemed to recover from the time of the government bailout in 2007-2010. This is due to their new vehicles and their improvement of existing cars. They have gone on to win several Car of the Year awards with the Chevy Volt.
